Dark Sky Photography Adventures in Jasper

jasper dark sky festival stargazing at Pyramid Island watching shooting stars

Shooting stars and glistening reflections are just part of the magic that comes out in the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve at night.

Anyone who has stood in silence beneath a starry sky or the milky way, far away from the city lights knows; seeing the full glory of the dark night sky is an awe-inspiring experience - especially in Jasper! As light pollution across the globe spreads, so does the value and appreciation people have for dark skies grow. That is part of what has made Jasper National Park a haven for star-seekers, aurora chasers, and night sky enthusiasts in recent years. And also why it is a haven for dark sky or night photographers like ourselves!

Jasper Dark Sky Preserve

Most importantly though; Jasper National Park was designated as a Dark Sky Preserve back in 2011 - one of 17 in Canada and actually the 2nd largest in the entire world! Not only that, but as Jasper Travel (the organization behind the Jasper Dark Sky Festival) says on their website ‘we are the largest accessible Dark Sky Preserve - meaning there’s a town within the limits of the preserve.’ When it comes to an experience that is such a part of being a human, standing in the dark of night and gazing into the far reaches of the universe, accessibility is so important. We are so happy to live in a place that is available for all ages and abilities to get out and see the magic of the Dark Sky.

Dark Sky Photography Packages

As family, portrait, wedding and elopement photographers based in Jasper, Alberta, we love the opportunity to bring our work out under the dark sky. Clients can add a Dark Sky upgrade onto any of our packages, so if you are having family photos done on an autumn afternoon, clients can choose to meet up later in the evening for some family photos under the night sky as well.

We also offer Dark Sky photography packages for weddings and elopements. Some of our elopement clients have their elopement photography coverage during the day (the ceremony and portraits) and then add on a dark sky photo session in the evening, after dinner and once twilight has arrived. Some people love the stars so much they just want to do the whole thing under the night sky!

Portrait clients looking to add Dark Sky photos on to their portrait session can purchase the Adventure Session package. Check out our jasper portrait photography session package pricing!

As for elopement clients, check out our Jasper adventure elopement photography pricing here.
